                                                    J5 XV 34-17 Malahide

On a very cold afternoon, the J5’s travelled out beside the sea to take on Malahide on Saturday.

Malahide started off the stronger side. A few missed first time tackles enabled Malahide to make a few breaks. They were rewarded with a try. 5-0. After 15 minutes we got ourselves back into the game and made amends for the slow start. The first time we got into their 22 we came away with a try through scrum half Kieran Morrissey. 5-5. From there we continued to dominate the game. A break down the left flank and a kick on led to a chase between winger Caolan Reid and his opposite number with Reid getting his hands to the ball to make the touch down on the line. 10-5. At this stage we had to make an enforced changed due to an injury to David Browne, which unfortunately meant we had to go to uncontested scrums. Replacement Paul Travers wasnt on the pitch very long before he went over for a score. Gary Crawford got the conversion. 17-5. Prior to the try, in the build up outhalf David Crowley had to come off with a dislocation. With a few minutes left in the have we had a lineout just inside their 22. After a clean catch the pack mauled it over the line with Hooker Jody Brooks getting on the end of it. 22-5. Half time.

Just like the first half, we were slow out of the blocks in the second half. Again some first time tackles were missed and Malahide went over for the first score of the second half. 22-12. It didnt take us long to up our game. We got straight back into it. We got ourselves up into the Malahide and Eamonn Walsh went over for his second try in two matches. 27-12. Midway through the half Kieran Morrissey also got his second try of the game, with Gary Crawford successful with the kick. 34-12. Late on in the half Malahide went over for a score. 34-17. That is the way it finished.

The unbeaten run continues for the J5’s. Eight out of eight with another ten games left to play in the league. Next up is an away trip to Clontarf.
