J1 XV v Terenure (H) by D. O’Brien – 09.11.2024
St Mary’s College RFC J1 V Terenure College RFC J1
Leinster Metro League 1

This was a game of two high quality J1 teams, both playing with gusto and will. They were playing in front of a big residual crowd from the classical senior game earlier, Marys got a super start with a try in the first minute from high class winger Leandro Ramirez, and from then to the end scoring was tit for tat. Marys lost influential, quality second row Liam Corcoran, who was a big loss, especially since Skipper and highly promising Conor Pierce at 8, was out injured. Terenure took a little while to get into the game, but then their heavier pack gave them a slight advantage. Both teams had some impressive players and indeed, all looked well capable of supporting the senior squad.
In the Marys pack, Ian Wickham, Howard Noonan, and Eoin Power stood out and behind the pack, Adam McEvoy and Aaron O’Neill were outstanding at half back and in a quality backline, Zach Hopkins, Peter Ford and Eoin Carey, caught the eye. There was good support off the bench too with Shane McGrath Jack Halpin, Kealan Quinn and George Hassett, adding well when entering the fray. Marys scored four tries and Nure scored five and deserved their win.
Marys J1s are progressing nicely thanks to the estimable coaching of Eanna Clynes who is doing outstanding work and is very well supported by the management of Darren Walker and Gary Manning. This group give a most valuable service under difficult conditions.
