J5’s 27-10 Tallaght

Last Thursday the J5’s play Tallaght at home in the final J5 League game of the Season. This was originally an away fixture, but Tallaght conceded home advantage so we could collect the League Trophy at home.

Tallaght started the stronger side. It took a while for us to get going. (Minds on what was due to happen after the game) Tallaght were reward with an early try which they converted. 0-7. Midway through the half we worked our way back into the game. Centre Kieran Morrissey went over in the corner. 5-7. From the kick off the ball was knocked on and it was a scrum to Tallaght. Following some good defensive work the ball was intercepted by Captain Anto. He fell just short of the line and offloaded to chasing prop Steve Walkin who finished off the score. Gary Crawford converted the kick. 12-7. Thats the way it stayed at half time.

Crawford kept the score ticking over in the 2nd half with an early penalty kick. 15-7. Some wild handling by Tallaght led to Kieran Morrissey coming away with the ball from inside our 22. He ran nearly the length of the field before he offloaded to Andy Fitzpatrick who finished off the score. Crawford again got the kick. 22-7. Later in the half Caolan Reid went over for what turned out to be our final score of the game. 27-7. A lot of the remainder of the half was spend defending our line. Persistant penalties by Jody Brooks led to him being put in the bin. During this spell Tallaght only managed a kick at goal. 27-10. Final score.

There was great celebration at the final whistle. We knew it was a job well done. After a long season of 16 League games, with only 2 defeats, we finished our campaign off with a win. J5 League Champions 2010-2011.

It has taken what seems like a very long time to get to this moment. Over 5 or 6 years of hard work. We have had a few ups and a lot more downs (heavy defeats) on the way. On a personal note, for me, this is my best moment involved in the J5’s. Our first trophy with this group of players. We have 3 weeks to wait for our next match. A cup semi final. This season isn’t over yet for us.
