The St. Marys women travelled to UL Bohs on 31st October in round 6 of the AIL, from the kickoff it was clear that this would be a highly contested match. Less than five minutes in to the first half Bohs got the first points of the game with a try which Ireland captain Niamh Briggs was unable to convert. The girls in blue replied straight away and number 8 heather Carey got a try for the visiting team, which centre Saidhbhe O’Riordan converted. Just before the half hour mark Bohs crossed the try line to bring the score to 12-7,this was the score going into half time. As play got back under way it was clear that both teams were hungry for the win but a bohs try in the 8th minute opened the floodgates and there was a brace of unanswered tries. The final score was UL Bohs 40- St. Marys 7, however, this does not reflect the competitiveness of the game, the St. Marys girls have improved massively since recent weeks. The girls have a much needed break this week and will be targeting Queens on 15th November at home to get back to winning ways. Well done to Dublin camogie player Aisling Pyke who made her debut for marys on Saturday coming off the bench and proved that she will be a great addition to our team. Our two players of note this week were vice captain Saidhbhe O’Riordan who led the backs by example and was massively physical in attack and defence throughout the game, and Connaught inter-pro Heather Carey who was our try scorer this week.
