U20’s v MU Barnhall (A) – 13.11.22

Match Report | U20s Vs MU Barnhall, Away

It’s taken a few days to digest exactly what happened on Sunday.

After a last minute change to our lineup we were set & ready to go. Barnhall got the first try early on and the body language of our players was a bit down, but verbal encouragement from the coaches Eddie Devitt and Richard Andreucetti seemed to help. Ross Moore created a fantastic line break, sped towards the try line, gave the pass, was tackled late and the referee decided to award a penalty try.

Mary’s got the next two scores, leading 22-10 at the break.

After halftime the away side continued the pressure, keeping the scoreboard ticking over with both a converted try and a penalty. Leading 32-22 with ten minutes remaining, Adam Sloan was yellow carded for continuous team penalties. Two minutes later Ross Molloy followed Adam into the bin for a late tackle. Barnhall capitalised on this with two tries in quick succession. The home side piled on the pressure in the middle of the field, until Mary’s stole the ball at the ruck, Senan Phelan chipped the ball over the top and followed it to the try line where he scored.

39-34 at full time.

We are now in sixth place, hoping to push on against UCD on Sunday 27th at Templeville Road. The team hopes you can come down and support the next generation of Mary’s stars.
