U20 XV v NUIG (H) – 08.12.2019

This past  Sunday the under 20s faced NUIG in their last game before Christmas. Previously the under 20s had gone 6/6 and had been top of the league with a point to spare. This game was Quickstart with St Mary‘s scoring a fast try however NUIG then scored and took the lead……in what could be described as a questionable try.

It was a very entertaining game of rugby from a neutral supporters point of view but for anyone involved it was a very stressful game.

NUIG went 20-10 ahead before a fight back from our U20s. At half time it was 22-20 to St Mary’s. In the second half Joe Nolan received a yellow card. St Mary’s we’re down to 14 for 10 crucial minutes in the game.  We really thought we had blown it until we were awarded a scrum just outside the 22.

Last play of the game……..Tim MacMahon broke a tackle passed it to Luke Mannion who got over the line, it finished 27-23. The U20s now head into the Christmas break with 7/7 in the league. Top of the table with 13 points to spare. They have a couple of weeks off before getting back into it after Christmas.

A special thanks to all the parents, members and friends of the squad for the support so far this season, it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
