Women’s First XV v Midland Warriors

Women’s First XV v Midland Warriors
It was a strong start by the Mary G’s team that saw great rucking and offloading resulting in the opening try of the game and Scho crossing to finish off a great move in the centre of the field.
Midland Warriors though took full advantage when Scho was sin binned rather harshly and used the numerical advantage to run in 3 tries on the bounce.
However, the Mary G’s hit back before half time with a wonderful team try that saw every player involved right from a hard hitting tackle by AJ to force a turnover, running through the phases before Rosemary broke the line with a crashing run, Rhya subsequently making the break on the right wing, releasing Anna to eventually dot down for our second try of the day. Rhya nailed her second conversation of the day to leave the score 17-14 at half time.
On the resumption, the Midland Warriors made their numbers count and managed to run in another try leaving Mary G’s chasing the game somewhat.
However, never unbowed, the Mary G’s kept up a relentless onslaught on the Warriors line with some great ball carrying, especially by Rosemary, Sorcha and Erica, and major turnovers won by Ali, Sarah and Anna.
The attacking platform based on a dominant scrum provided great go forward ball. However, the Warriors were resolute in defense and doggedly kept their try line intact despite the repeated efforts of our women. In the end, a break down field by Warrior put the result to bed.
Mary G’s went in search of a try that would have yielded a bonus point in the dying stages and were denied by a touch line decision that appeared to see Rosemay brilliantly release AJ down the wing for the all important score, only for the touch judge to call it back much to the chagrin of the Mary G’s bench, coaches and supporters.
In the end though Midland Warriors were well worth their win and it proved, as always, an enjoyable game with our friends from Moate.
