SUNDAY 28TH FEBRUARY
ST MARY’S PENNANT TEAM

St Mary’s -v- DLSP

St Mary’s started brightly playing good attacking rugby but against the run of play DLSP were awarded a penalty which they converted to lead 3 – 0.  From the re-start DLSP took control for the next 15 minutes with a much bigger pack and they began to push us off our own ball.  We eventually got into their half and  withsome fine passing across the pitch to our winger Steven Daly who scored an excellent try in the corner, converted by Kieran Murphy we went ahead score now 7 – 3.  With ten minutes to go in the first half we lost Darragh Horgan to injury and in this period DLSP broke through our line to score a fine try, leading 8 -7 at half time.

At the start of the second half St Marys piled on the pressure and were unlucky not to score in this period but DLSP got a break-away to score a try leaving the score 13-7.  From the re-start St Marys played lovely rugby and from a delicate chip through the DLSP defence by Kieran Murphy which Ricky collected and crossed the line for a fine try which was converted by Kieran Murphy.  St Marys back in front 14 – 13.   Just after the try we lost Owen Walsh through a shoulder injury and soon after this DLSP took the lead again with a penalty to lead 16 – 14.  From the re-start DLSP put us under a lot of pressure inside our own half and just as it looked likely that they would score a try Ricky intercepted the ball from his 22 and ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts, converted by Kieran Murphy leaving St Marys leading 21 – 16.

With about 7 minutes left in the match St Marys were camped on their own goal line defending bravely but eventually DLSP broke through for a try but missed the conversion.  Score 21 all.

The score at 21 all reflected a fair result as both sides played excellent rugby.

Thanks to Ritchie and Chops on the day and the squad for a great performance.
