                                                        J5 XV 15-13 DLSP

On a very cold and icy Friday night in Templeville Road, the J5’s tough on DLSP in the league. This was a stronger side than they had out against us a month ago in a friendly. We knew it was going to be a tough game and there wouldnt be much in.

As expected the game started very tight. Not much in it between the two side. The first score of the game came fifteen minutes in when DLSP kicked a penalty inside our twenty two. 0-3. We came back very strong and turned the ball over from the restarted. Within a few seconds Gary Crawford went through the DLSP line and score under the posts. Kick from Adrian Malone was successful. 7-3. Thats the way it stayed for the half until the last ten minutes. DLSP landed another penalty. 7-6. Again within a few minutes we responded with a fine try from scrum half Kieran Morriessy near half time. 12-6.

We spent most of the second half camped inside our twenty two. DLSP put a lot of pressure which the lads did their best to contain. We held them until eighteen minutes to go when they got through our line. Kick was successful. 12-13. The lads kept the heads up and battled on. The remainder of the half was spent inside the DSLP. With 5 mins to go the pressure paid off and we were rewarded a penalty within striking distance. Gary Crawford landed the kick to give us back the lead. Only just. 15-13. DLSP tried to get themselves back into but our defence held for. A few minutes later a shivering ref blew for full time.

Peformance on the night mightnt have been the best but we got the result which is all that matters. The lads have learned a lot from experiences of previous seasons where they wouldnt have had the confidence to fight to get the win. Next up is an away trip to Malahide which no doubt will be just as tough.
