Terenure RFC VS St Marys College RFC
Lakelands, Terenure 3pm Kick off

There was a top of the table clash on offer at Lakelands on Saturday with the League leaders St Marys and there main rivals in chief Terenure doing battle at a packed and hostile Lakelands. St Marys got off to a good start with Terenure’s full back knocking on from the kick off, Marys pack pilled in and forced Terenure to give away a kick able penalty. Marys out half David Crowley failed to convert this easy penalty which would turn out to be costly at the end of the game. After this miss it spurred Terenure into life and they where soon pilling the pressure onto Marys defence that was starting to show cracks. Terenure pressure finally paid off with their impressive winger going over under the post for the opening score. To St Mary’s relief Terenure failed to convert this into 7 points. St Marys again pilled on the pressure from the re- start and forced a turn over allowing them to have some valuable time in Terenure’s half but where unable to convert this pressure into points. Terenure really started to take a strangle hold on the game and St Marys were under huge pressure with the Terenure pack starting to dominate and St Marys missing crucial tackles. This pressure finally paid off with Terenure going over for there second try and this time the out half converted to leave the score Terenure 12 St Marys 0. St Marys where now under pressure with Terenure threatening to put the game out of sight but to St Mary’s credit they showed great resolve resulting in Crowley converting an easy penalty. St Marys where now starting to play well but it was short lived with Terenure finishing the half stronger and adding another 3 points to leave the score Terenure 15 St Marys 3 at the short whistle. St Marys suffered a double blow at the start of the second half with Terenure extending their lead to 15 points and St Marys loosing there big ball carrier Paul Travers through a rib injury. This loss seemed to sting Marys into life and from a good line out Marys Veteran Ian McCarthy went over in the corner for Marys first try the grounding of the ball was in dispute but to Marys and Ian’s delight the try was awarded. Marys out half David Crowley then converted from the touch line. Marys now really had the bit between their teeth and started pilling pressure on Terenure which resulted in Terenure giving away a penalty in Crowley’s kicking range. Crowley duly slotted the penalty to leave just 5 points between the teams. Terenure’s back where now firmly to the wall but they never panicked and finished the games better and ended up scoring a try in the corner with 15 minutes to go. Marys now where throwing everything at Terenure but could not breach the Terenure defence. Terenure then landed the final blow with a penalty with 5 minutes to go to leave Marys outside losing bonus point range. Marys threw caution to the wind and moved there scrum half Kieran Morrissey to centre in an effort to create something but what ever Marys had to offer Terenure had all the answers in defence and duly ran out deserve winners on a score line of Terenure 23 St Marys 13. This now leaves St Marys just 4 point clear of Terenure at the top of the Junior 5 table.
