Overall

Again this week, it was a strong Marys’ selection that took the field and ultimately disappointed. However, there was no lack of intent, interest or commitment, today, it was mainly a lack of cohesion, composure and coordinated action that was our undoing. For all that, it was a spirited, fast, feisty and entertaining game. The result of course tells its own story and the disappointment that went with the result.

Losing influential and committed captain Peter Starrett, today playing at Eight (due to a late withdrawal), half way through the first half did not help the cause, although his replacement, young Robert Beverland, impressed. Indeed, following up very well on a superb break from his own half by returning Conor Hogan, Rob scored a fine try. Once again, Emmett Ferron and Conor Gilsenan, along with Hugh McDonnell did well and Ciaran Ruddock applied himself diligently, showed his abilities and so was the most influential player on the Marys’ side and MOM.

Our strong pack was dominant in the scrum and lineout, which makes it particularly disappointing. All that said the victory for Nure was condign as they capitalised on Marys’ errors and had the pace and skills to make the home team pay for them.

There is no doubting that there are the talented players available to be successful at J1 level and with a little more time it will come together. So it is important to keep spirit and belief. There is also talented management in Gareth and John and with new coach, the formidable, Steve Bradshaw, now bedding in, they will ensure progress.

Scoring

St Marys: – Four ties, two in each half (ensuring a bonus point), one conversion and a penalty. 25.

Terenure: – Nine tries, four in the first half and five in the second half. Four conversions,
