U21 Pennant V TCD U21
A very entertaining match played on a very slippery pitch by two execellent sides.

From the kick off TCD pinned us inside our 22 but St Marys defended well. We got to grips with the pitch and take the game to Trinity and we started to get up field and attack the TCD line.  From a line out just outside the TCD  22 Marys won  and after some neat passing it lead to  an excellent cross field kick to the corner  which was caught  by Rory Sweeney  who crossed over the line for a brillant try which was converted by Matt Dempsey – St Marys 7 – 0 up.  From the restart Trinity made some excellent play inside the Marys 22 where they got a well taken try  but missed the conversion – 7 -5 to Marys. St Marys scored another beautiful try from just inside there own half again by the winger Rory Sweeney who ran 60 metres to touch down near the post and Matt Dempey converted the conversion – 14 /5 with 15 minutes to go to half time. From the kick off we conceded a penalty in front of the posts for a high tackle which they converted 14 – 8 to Marys.  For the next  tenminutes and playing with 14 men we struggled to stop TCD scoring a well taken try which they converted the conversion  bring the score to 14 – 15.  Just before half time we were back to full strength with 15 players.

At the start of the second half  it was end to end rugby by both teams playing a high standard of rugby. Marys got the better of TCD in the line outs winning clean ball for our backs to make strong running at TCD back line where we boke through to score a well taken try by Steve Daly 19 – 15 to Marys. St Marys were awarded a penalty  which Matt Dempey converted to leave Marys leading 22 – 15 with ten minutes left.  TCD came back at us  and got an execellent try in the corner which their outhalf converted from the touch line making it 22 all. From the kick fof Marys where awarded a penalty which me missed. But overall a draw was a fair result. But if the lads keep playing they way they did on Sunday there  is no reason why we won t finished second to UCD in the league.

Many thank to Chops, Richie and the Pennant ballboyMax.
