SMCRFC PADEL
Member Project Update / Briefing Note August 2025
Overview
• SMCRFC plans to build 3 padel courts within its grounds to create an additional source of income for the club in the medium term.
• The Executive Committee approved the club seeking planning permission. The members were briefed on intentions at a well-received member information evening. Architect drawings are on display on the club notice boards.
• A planning application was submitted on 17th April last, and initial grant of permission was received on 11th June, and final permission issued on August 14th. No onerous conditions have been attached to the grant of permission. The Club is delighted with this outcome.
• The Executive established a Padel Delivery Group (PDG) chaired by Stephen Shirley and comprising Lorcan Byrne, Paul Conlon, Gerry Hassett, Frank Kennedy, Keith McCarthy and Gareth Roche
• The cost of building the facility will be funded by a private donor.
• Under the Club rules, approval by the members at aspecially convened SGM is required in order for us to enter in the loan agreement.
• Discussions are proceeding with the contractor with a view to signing contracts in the next few weeks, and it is hoped that construction will be complete early in the new year.
The SGM is being held on Thursday 21st August at 8.30pm. In order to give Members an opportunity to ask questions on the project in advance of the SGM, a special information evening is being held on Monday 18th August at 8.30pm. We are happy to answer any questions which you may have.
