The J4’s played near-neighbours Tallaght in Kiltipper last Saturday. Conditions were good but like the Ireland v France game later that day, it was a match and a performance best forgotten.
A bright start, with an improvised drop-goal from Teddy, was marked by periods of sustained pressure in the Tallaght 22 with unforced errors preventing Mary’s from extending the lead.
A good break from left wing Chi-Yuen and a quick recycle, led to Teddy picking and crashing over for a try and an 8-0 halftime lead.
The second half performance deteriorated with both sides receiving a yellow card each. Approaching full time, Tallaght pounced on a dropped ball in midfield to run in under the posts and make the score 8-7 but, as in the rest of the match, were unable to create any scoring opportunities to threaten the Mary’s win.
Better performances will be needed as the top 2 of Belvo and Coolmine both visit Templeville Road in the next 2 weeks.
