J5 XV 3-27 Clontarf

On Saturday the J5’s (2nd’s) put in a strong performance against a good Clontarf side. The St Mary’s side took the early lead with a well taken penalty from Sean Gilheaney early on. That is the way it stayed for most of the half. Late in the half Clontarf went in for a try to make 3-5. A missed penalty shot on goal by us meant that the score remained 3-5 at half time.

The rain got heavy in the 2nd half and made conditions under foot difficult. Clontarf got the early luck and went in for a try mid way through the half. 3-10 Despite a great effort St Mary’s fell away late on. Clontarf went in for a couple of late scores. Final score 3-27.

The defeat rounded off a bad day for the J5 set up. A good effort for the 2nd team which is a development team and complements the efforts of the J4 B very well.
