Season by season: every result, league table, squad, match report and line-up we hold for the St. Mary's J5s.
2006/07 – 2026/27. In these years the St. Mary's J5s won the Leinster J5 League in 2011, the O’Connor Cup in 2012 and Metro League Division 11 in 2018, and the club’s own D.P. Smyth J5 Blitz five years running, from 2015 to 2019. They also reached the Division 11 final in 2017, the Division 10 final in 2019 and the Guilfoyle-James Cup final in 2019.
There are eighteen season pages, including the current season, 2026/27, shown as it stood on 9 October 2026. The J5s played in the J4 League (as St. Mary’s College RFC B) until the Leinster J5 League began in 2009/10, and in the Metro League from 2013/14. There was no rugby in 2020/21 because of Covid-19, and no J5 team in 2021/22 or 2022/23; the J5 was relaunched in 2023/24.
The J5s’ cup was the O’Connor Cup until 2015/16 and has been the Guilfoyle-James Cup since 2016/17 (a second J5 side also played in the Guilfoyle-James Cup from 2009/10 to 2011/12). Smyth J5 Blitz is the club’s own J5 competition, played for a trophy presented by the family of Dermot Smyth and first played in 2000.

Where the current J4/J5 story begins. There was no J5 league yet, so the J5s' competitive rugby was the O'Connor Cup, lost 17–19 away to CYM in the second round, and the D.P. Smyth J5 Blitz, where they reached the final.
Playing in the J4 League as St. Mary's College RFC B, the J5s finished seventh of eight in Pool 3 and entered two sides in the O'Connor Cup, both out at the group stage. The season ended with a tour to Cologne.
A second season in the J4 League as St. Mary's College RFC B, finishing seventh in Pool 2, and an O'Connor Cup first-round defeat at home to Clontarf, 0–8.
The first season of the Leinster J5 League: fifth of eight, with six wins. Out of the O'Connor Cup in the first round at Stillorgan, while a second J5 side played friendlies and the Guilfoyle-James Cup.
Leinster J5 League champions: 14 wins from 16 games, the title clinched at Stillorgan on 2 April 2011 and the trophy presented after the last game, against Tallaght. An O'Connor Cup semi-final at Terenure followed.
O'Connor Cup winners. Normans and Bective Rangers were beaten on the way to the final at Donnybrook on 24 April 2012, where Clontarf were beaten 21–13 after extra time: the club's eighth O'Connor Cup and the first since 1994. Eighth in the J5 League.
The J5 League became a Super Six: third in the Phase 1 pool, then fifth of six in Section A. In the O'Connor Cup, Normans were beaten 34–8 before a 5–25 defeat at Bective Rangers.
Into the new Metro League: fifth of seven in Division 10, safety secured with a win at Monkstown, and an O'Connor Cup semi-final at Terenure after a 36–6 win over Stillorgan-Rathfarnham. Runners-up in the D.P. Smyth Blitz.
Fifth in Metro League Division 10 and out of the O'Connor Cup in the first round, but the D.P. Smyth J5 Blitz was won for the first time since 2002, CYM beaten in a drop-kick shoot-out in the final.
Fifth again in Division 10 and an O'Connor Cup first-round defeat at Terenure, but the D.P. Smyth J5 Blitz was retained, Clontarf beaten 3–0 after extra time in the final.
Top of Metro League Division 11, but beaten 3–10 by Clontarf in the final at Templeville Road. A third D.P. Smyth Blitz in a row, and out of the Guilfoyle-James Cup in the first round at MU Barnhall.

Up to Division 10 and runners-up twice: second in the table and beaten 20–33 by Monkstown in the final, then beaten 13–33 by Stillorgan-Rathfarnham in the Guilfoyle-James Cup final at Energia Park. A fifth D.P. Smyth Blitz in a row.
Low numbers meant the J5 was withdrawn from Metro League Division 10 early in the season and the squad concentrated on the J4 in Division 9. Covid-19 then ended the season.
The J5 was relaunched as a friendlies side for players wanting a lighter season, captained by Chris O'Connor with Owen Clery as head coach. Two friendly wins, and a first-round Guilfoyle-James Cup defeat at Clontarf.
Back in a league: fourth of eight in Metro League Division 11, and a Guilfoyle-James Cup semi-final against Dublin Dogos.
Fifth of six in Metro League Division 11, with big wins over Emerald Warriors and Newbridge, and a first-round Guilfoyle-James Cup defeat to Bective Rangers.
