J3 XV Hub
Season by season: every result, league table, squad, match report and photograph we hold for the St. Mary's J3s.
2006/07 – 2026/27. In these years the St. Mary's J3s won the Moran Cup three times, in 2010, 2015 and 2018, and three league titles: the J3 League in 2013 without losing a league game, Metro League Division 5 in 2014, again unbeaten, and Metro League Division 7 in 2024. They also won Section B of the J3 League in 2008, and lost a league play-off final in 2007 and league finals in 2018 and 2025.
There are nineteen season pages, including the current season, 2026/27, shown as it stood on 8 October 2026. No J3 XV was fielded in 2016/17, and there was no rugby in 2020/21 because of Covid-19. From 2022/23 the J3s have played in the Winters Cup instead of the Moran Cup.
The Moran Cup began in 1949 and has traditionally been the J3 XV cup. St. Mary's were its first winners, with an unbeaten 3rd A XV captained by Matt Gilsenan. Read the full Moran Cup history.

Second in Section A with one league defeat all season, then a play-off final lost 7–15 to Lansdowne. Lansdowne also ended the Moran Cup run, by a single point.
Top of Section B with seven wins from eight and 288 points scored, then a play-off semi-final lost to Lansdowne. In the Moran Cup a 16–16 draw with Stillorgan-Rathfarnham went against them on tries.
Third in Section B of the J3 League, and a Moran Cup semi-final lost 0–6 to Terenure.
The Moran Cup back at Templeville Road after ten years: Terenure beaten 10–0 in the final at Donnybrook.
One league defeat all season: the title lost to Lansdowne on the final night, and a cup semi-final lost to the same opponents.
Fifth in Section A, then an 83–0 cup win over CYM and a semi-final lost by four points to Lansdowne.
League winners with a perfect record: every league game won, in both phases of the Metro J2/J3 League Lower 12.
Metro League Division 5 champions, unbeaten: thirteen wins and a draw, then UCD beaten 24–5 in the final.
A hard first season up in Division 4, then the Moran Cup won in style: four cup wins out of four and Terenure beaten 32–9 in the final at Donnybrook.
Seventh in Division 4 for a second year. The season opened with a 39–5 win over Dundalk in the rain; no J3 side was fielded the following season.
The J3s re-formed after a season away and won the Moran Cup for the tenth time, beating De La Salle Palmerston 18–13 at Donnybrook. They also reached the Division 5 final, lost 0–5 at Naas.
Up a division, and in the top two at Christmas before injuries and a small panel told. Sixth in Division 4, and a cup win at Railway Union.
The J3 and J4 squads were merged over the summer and the new J3s played in Division 5. Four wins in the last five league games, then Covid-19 ended the season with one game unplayed.
Rugby returned after the Covid season. A difficult league campaign in Division 5 was followed by a run to the Moran Cup semi-final.
Now in Division 6 and the Winters Cup. Captain Richard Fagan was lost to a broken arm, Michael O'Malley stood in, and the season ended one score short in a cup semi-final against Dublin University.
Metro League Division 7 champions. Ten wins in a row after two early defeats, 447 points scored, and Seapoint beaten 13–6 in the final at Kilbogget Park.
A second league final in two years. Second in Division 6 after promotion, two points behind Clontarf, and beaten 17–19 by them in the final at Castle Avenue.
Third in Division 6, and a Winters Cup semi-final lost by a single point at Greystones.
The current season, in Metro League Division 6 and the Winters Cup. Two wins from two so far: 39–5 at home to Greystones and 34–10 away to Seapoint.
