On Sat 24th of Sept the J4s started their league campaign.

Tullamore away was to be a memorable day. Firstly, we hired a coach which was to bring us to the game on time for a good warm up. The driver however had worked for Bord Failte and decided to bring us on a tour of the Midlands, some thought he was bringing us to Knock for a blessing. Eventually we arrived 15 mins before kick-off. Thankfully Colm Kavanagh had the foresight to drive directly to the grounds and advised the ref that we would be late. KO was delayed 15mins to give us a chance to prepare.

They game started, our first venture into their half lead to a fine pack try. Lineout won we drove 10 yards to score our first try. Conversion missed. They came back to score a penalty. At half time the score was 5-3 to us.

We had plenty of possession but couldn’t score against a big Tullamore team.

After a half time chat we upped the tempo and started to break through their defence. Tries were scored 2x Padraig Nestor, 1x Gar Lloyd, 1x Peter Daly,1x Michael Daly,1x Richard Pyne. 2 con by David Daly. The game finished 34-3 to us. We were fed and watered and returned directly to the club to celebrate our victory with our 1st XV who also had a win.

We move on next week for home game v Coolmine, and hopefully continue our good start to the season.
