06/12/2009 | 12.00 | Pennant League | St. Marys U21s 2nd XV | 28 – 5 | Seapoint | Home |
St Marys -V- Seapoint.
A great performance by the u21 side against a very big seapoint team. From the start St Marys put all the pressure on the Seapoint pack resulting in an early penalty which Ross O’Brien converted 3 – 0 to St. Marys.
Following the conversion we controled the game playing some lovely football with our pack putting Seapoint under fierce pressure and our backs making great breaks through the Seapoint defence. This resulted in our pack winning clean ball for the backs to break through and score a great try by Alan McNamara which Ross O’Brien converted to make the score 10 -0. Seapoint only got into our 22 twice in the game and on the stroke of half time they scored a good try after we had defended brillianty . They missed the conversation leaving the half time score 10 – 5 to Marys. The second half started and we took control of the game completely. Seapoint conceded an early penalty which Ross O’Brien converted to bring the score to 13 – 5. Followed with by a superb try by Richard McMicken converted by Ciaran Murphy bringing the score to 20 – 5. From the resulting kick-off we put Seapoint defence under fierce presssure which led to Seapoint conceding a further penalty which was converted by Ciaran Murphy, 23 – 5. With five minutes or less left of the game a great cross-field kick by Ciaran Murphy followed up by Richard McMicken to score his second try of the game leaving the final score at 28 – 5. A great team performance, huge effort by all players, including the subs. who contributed a major part to winning the game when they were called on. The Under 21s Penant side greatly appreciated the support from Richard & Robert Sweeney from the 1sts who helped with the coaching on the day.
