DLM Babas 35 v 17 Barnhall RFC
DLM Babas 35 v 17 Barnhall RFC
This match didn’t start off as the home side would have liked. Within the first two minutes, Barnhall were the ones who got off the mark with a classic forwards try in the corner. The conversion was missed, but Barnhall didn’t mind. They were delighted to get an early score. They remained dominant in the early stages of the match.
However, the Babas, ever so slowly, began to wake up and get more involved. They got their reward with a well worked team try near the posts. Conversion was successful. And less than five minutes later, they were over again for another. Conversion successful again. The Babas were now ahead, 14 – 5, and with a spring in their step.
In fairness to Barnhall, they didn’t lose heart. They kept at it and banged in two tries, missing one conversion, before the half was over. They led 14 – 17 at half time and looked to be more in control than the home team.
The half-time team talk was all about our defence. We were allowing Barnhall to have too much space that facilitated their centres to run riot through our lines. We resolved to do something about it.
The second half started with the Babas upping the intensity, which put Barnhall on the backfoot, forcing them to make mistakes. This great team effort was rewarded with another try, which was converted, and we were back in the lead, 21 – 17. And well deserved it was too.
The game was still in the balance at that stage. Each side traded blows for the next while, and thankfully, the play was mostly in the Barnhall half. Barnhall were doing their best to turn it around, but it was the Babas who had the extra gear. Two well worked team tries followed, both converted. And the game was put to bed.
DLM Babas well and truly deserved their victory. They made a lot of mistakes, and they learned from them and resolved to put it right themselves. Fair play to them. It is great to see.
Looking forward to training and the next match.
