U14 Girls v Rugby Rebels – Leinster League

U14 Girls v Rugby Rebels

The U14 girls welcomed Rugby Rebels, a combined team of Coolmine and Barnhall to Templeville Road. This was their second game of the Leinster League.

It resulted in a strong win of 40-10 for the girls in blue who dominated the majority of the game.

The first half was quite contested, with the Mary’s girls carrying the ball through the centre of the pitch.

At half-time the girls regathered to see how they could improve their performance and get more tries in.

With some clear communication from scrum-half Aldi (Adah) and the rest of the back line, the team decided to use the space on the wings to get the ball out — which is exactly what they did.

Ruby scored two tries along the wing and a conversion, with Laura similarly scoring two tries and a conversion with a strong chase and carry.

It was great to see some of our newer players take the lead, with Órla scoring a hat-trick under the posts with some excellent line breaks and carries!

Lily and Gráinne who joined us for Give It a Try back in May, both scored their first tries which is highly impressive given it was their second ever rugby match!

With Mary’s taking such a strong lead, both teams of players and coaches decided to join up the teams so every player gained play time. Emily who also was part of the Give It a Try programme scored her first try… albeit not in a Mary’s jersey! A try is a try however.

The best part as coaches was watching the girls fearlessly making tackles on each other and improve their game and skills.

Next up for the team is away to Navan on 3rd November, who they beat in their semi-final last season. It’ll be an exciting game to watch!
