Marys U16 Girls Match Report

Saturday 24th Feb 2024

Clontarf 52 De La Marys 19

It would be fair to say that this De La Marys U16 girls team will be glad to see the back of Clontarf. It was their third meeting in 4 weekends and the northsiders once again came out on top, 52 – 19.

Clontarf’s style is to come out all guns blazing and Saturday was no different scoring three tries in the first 10 minutes. With their tails up, Clontarf continued to attack from all areas of the pitch and with DLMs falling off a number of tackles, pushed the score out to the 30 point mark by half time.

However, after some stern words at half time, the DLM’s girls came out for the second half with more determination and focus and began to put it up to Clontarf. Stringing together a number of phases, and thunderous crash ball runs, DLM finally got over the whitewash to get a score on the board.

With confidence levels rising, DLMs began to play a more open, attacking game and their efforts were rewarded with a score under the posts. Unfortunately for every score DLM put on the board, Clontarf were able to match, but it would be fair to say in the terms of effort and commitment the final quarter went to the DLMs girls who have continually shown over the past month that they have huge heart, passion and a team spirit that means they never stop fighting for each other and despite the final score, for that, this DLM’s team can take a bow.
