18.09.2010 J5 XV v Stillorgan (A)

18/09/20103:00pmFStillorgan19 – 25St. Marys J5 XVAway

                                                    J5’s 25-19 Stillorgan

An enthralling encounter at Bird Avenue saw a new-look J5 team edge past a valiant Stillorgan side 25-19. Stillorgan began the match backed by a gale force wind which helped an impressive kicker dispatch an early penalty. However, despite mounting pressure on the Mary’s line, the boys in blue managed to withstand the home side’s attacks and eventually scored a brace of impressive tries on either wing to steam into a ten point to three lead. Aided by the strong breeze, Stillorgan ended the firt half well, scoring a further penalty and a converted try to take a three point lead into the break.

Mary’s started the second half a little nervously and conceded a further two penalties to trail by nine points. But soon the tide began to turn and the visitors were rewarded for their patience, as Andy Fitzpatrick capitalised on a Stillorgan error to score a fine breakaway try. Two further five-pointers from Dave Browne and Dan McEvoy sealed an impressive win for a hard working team whose self-belief got them over the line in the end. A try count of five to one on the day stands out as an impressive statistic, demonstrating both the side’s attacking guile and resilient defence.
