It was very difficult game in conditions that were not ideal! Having said that the team performed well overall. I say that because the first half performance was very good while our standard slipped slightly in the second half.  In saying that our defence in the second half was fully committed and very effective.

Had we maintained the first half standard we would have finished off the game earlier and saved me a lot of stress in the process. Certainly, but for a couple of handling errors, some excellent attacking play would have finished in spectacular tries.

As it transpired, the lead swung back and forth between both teams based on penalties converted and huge credit is due to Ray Crotty for his conversion of two difficult penalties from the 10mtr line.

Ray’s overall performance on the day was, I believe, what allowed us to win on the day. His running, out of defence and in attack, his in-field kicking and his tackling was excellent on the day.

Also worthy of note was the running of Hugh McGovern and the defensive tackling of JJ Clarke, Hugh McGovern, Darragh Keller (in spite of his split eye) and the line out disruption by Steve Maguire.

Overall this was a job done. Not pretty but successful nonetheless. We are now in a very strong position in this league and very much on track.

Next game is on 5th December will be a difficult game against Barnhall (Away).
