Under 21 League Final
St Marys RFC -v- Lansdowne

Final of league took place at Old Belvedere grounds on Tuesday 10th May.

St Marys didn’t get off to a great start as Lansdowne got a penalty after one minute of play which they converted 3/0.

From the kick off Lansdowne pilled on the pressure and were awarded another penalty which they converted 6/0

After this it got worse for Marys (despite the lads best efforts) as Lansdowne scored a fine try which they converted 13/0 to Lansdowne. It was not looking good for Marys at this point but they rallied together and after some fine passing from the back line Marys broke through the Lansdowne defence and scored an excellent try by Hugh Mc Govern and Colin Sheridan converted the from the touchline 13/7 to Lansdowne. From the restart Lansdowne against the run of play got a very well taken drop goal. Half time score 16/7 to Lansdowne.

The second half was delayed due to flood light failure by half an hour which was tough on both sides.

When the game restarted for the second half Marys put all the pressure on the Lansdowne defence with some excellent kicking from Colin Sheridan in to the Lansdowne corner. But unfortunately we were unable to cross their line. Shortly after this we were awarded a penalty which Colin converted 16/10. Game on!

After Lansdowne’s first attack into the Marys 22 in the second half they were awarded a penalty which they converted – 19/10. From the kick off Marys pilled on all the pressure but just couldn’t cross the line for the try they needed but were awarded a penalty which Colin converted – 19/13 to Lansdowne. From the kick off Marys attacked the Lansdowne line but they defended bravely, and from another rare break through into the Marys 22 Lansdowne were awarded another penalty 22/13. Final score 22/13 to Lansdowne. A heartbreaking end to a brilliant season.
