DLSP 5 – St Marys College RFC 33

Happy days you might thing…. Happy days indeed – win away from home with a bonus point, 2 days after returning from training camp….

However, the dressing room didn’t seem that happy afterwards and the players know they will need to up the ante if they are to be their Nemesis Terenure on Saturday. The mood in the pavilion afterwards was one of “we didn’t play well”….. But Win, we did and so to get a result like this playing poorly cant be that bad.

From the kick off we fumbled and so handed them possession for the next five minutes… when we did get possession we struggled to get anything going, losing ball in the final pass…. Eventually after about 15 minutes Richie Sweeney was on hand to take a try scoring pass – with Gavin Dunnes Conversion and subsequent penalty we were 10 to the good. But then we lost our way again, conceding a very soft try down the blindside…2 penalties before half time saw us hold a 16 – 5 advantage at half time.

The early part of the second half wasn’t much better than the first…. With a number of handling errors being a regular feature of the game.. Tries then from Copeland (2), and Captain Hugh Hogan and one conversion from Gavin saw it finish 33 -5. We all felt that the ref left it late to take “Yellow Card Action” and when he did he went for two. DLSP felt hard done by – we didn’t… ! !

So on to next Saturday where Terenure come to TV Rd.
