Saturday 4th September saw the 1st XV play their 2nd game of the week in the defence of their Leinster Senior Cup title away to De La Salle Palmerston. The miserable weather earlier in the morning lead to wet conditions under foot.

Disaster struck even before a whistle had been blown when during the warm up prior to the game there were 2 big losses with both Logi and Bradshaw were forced out of the match through injury.

The game was very tight early on as both teams felt each other out. Midway through the half Marys eventually open the scoring with the first try of the game, expertly finished by 4 try wonder Ray Crotty. After that try the pressure increased and Stephen Grissing stood his man up before going over for a try. Another try followed for Marys and DLSP’s only response was a solitary penalty kick. This turned out to be their only score of the match.

The try scoring continued right from the start of the 2nd half, as new signing Ian McKinley made his debut in the number 10 jersey. As the half wore on DLSP’s challenge faded and Marys ran in several unanswered tries to round off a good day by winning 58-3. Amongst the scorers were Ray Crotty, Stephen Grissing, Paul Gillespie and Craig Morrin.

Two down and one to go as we gear up to play Terenure this Saturday in a winner takes all match to decide who qualifies as Group winners, with the loser most likely taking an early exit from the competition.
