J3 XV 25-28 Dublin University (H) – Winters Cup Semi Final
On Saturday 15th of April our J3 Team played Trinity in the semi-final of the Winters Cup.
We had played Trinity in our league losing both games, so we knew we had a big game ahead.
We all stood up today and gave everything to the cause. The whole squad put the effort in to just fall short at the end to lose by 3 points was amazing.
We had tries from Cian Wogan, David Sloan, Kevin Shishabira and Michael O’Malley, 1 penalty and one conversion to make the score 25-28.
A truly superb performance and we thank each of the 20 players for their contribution to a great game. One man stood out today and that was Denis Daly. His defence and attack were on point and his partnership with Gary Lynch was impressive. He wins the Frank Keane man of the match.
We can hold our heads high as we did not concede this game but kept fighting until the end and that’s all a coach can ask. The culture in the J3s and J4s is top notch with both teams training and playing together over the season. We now will concentrate on getting a cup win for our J4s who play DLSP in the O’Connor Cup final next weekend. (Saturday, venue TBC). Let’s see you back at training, and we will all finish this season on a high.
We said farewell to big Tony Flynn from Scotland last night, a great supporter of St Mary’s. He will do his best to get back for our final.
Big thanks again to Caglar, Simon, Seamie, Richy, Chris and Ray Sloan for all their help yesterday.
The season is not over yet. We have a Final to look forward too and the DP Smyth trophy to play for on May 6th.
