Overall

On a gentle warm, sunny afternoon, following the tumultuous events of the senior game, many of the spectators from that game remained on the terraces to witness another high paced exciting game between the two old rivals for Dublin 6W affections. It was almost a helter-skelter of running rugby at a good level of skill. As with the senior game, Marys led, due to two penalties, for a fair period of the game but ultimately Nure, using their wide game to good effect pulled away. It was overall, an even contest, which made it interesting and unpredictable to the end. Unusually, all of the Nure tries involved kicks, one a kick ahead and two, cross kicks. Marys scored two good tries in the second half, one on 60 minutes, by winger, Eanna Clynes and the other on 72 first half and two tries, one converted, in the second half. There were several good performances to admire and it was especially heartening to see David Aspil back to fitness and putting in a high powered performance. Liam Curran, Emmett, Ferron and Cathal Ryan, also had fine games. And it was inspirational for young players to share the field with the creditable, Mark Donnellan, who played in the second row and performed with élan. It is good for the club and for rugby to have top players remaining on playing for many years, like Mark. Well done to Mark.

Behind the pack, the halves did well and Conor Slocombe at 12, too, looked sharp.
The defence and handling were much improved from last week. Again, the set pieces were secure, with the scrums being particularly strong and the team is evolving positively. Gareth and Paul will be happy and no doubt Mick (the Medium) will approve.
